It really started because the jews were most merchents that were very successful in europe. Isee a simialarity to the critisism how days from many of asian culture being so successful at the university level;altho not near as extreme. its just a fact that people are that are sucessful draw envy that often turns to hate. The jews in aprticular were easy scape goats for such groups as the Nazis because their was already this envy.
Well, jTur88, the above post is certainly a good example of the ingorance that has fomented a lot of the persecution of Jews in this country for the past 150 years. Do they not know that Jesus was also a Jew? or do they conveniently forget? It's always baffled me.

Even if they did kill Jesus of Nazareth (presuming he existed), according to Christian beliefs, that enables everyone to be forgiven for coveting their neighbor's wife, bearing false witness, and whatever other sins they commit. The guy couldn't have risen from the grave if he wasn't dead, seems to me. So whether it was the Romans or the Jews, seems it should be credit rather than blame: "THANK YOU for enabling us to go to Heaven in spite of the fact that we suck for disobeying divine laws!" If anything, Christians should love up on Jews with a mighty loving, if they really believe their ancestors killed their god in a state of innocence.
Which same: we may presume, right, that even if Jews did crucify the guy, the Jews that did so are currently deceased, and no living Jews did it. Right? Even Methuselah supposedly didn't live to be a thousand, so surely none of the cross crew have lived to be two thousand. If it is okay to have faulted and persecuted medieval and modern Jews for this, great. I'll go through history and find all the wrongs done in the name of Christianity (and I won't have to look very hard), and I will then start holding modern Christians responsible for those wrongs, and consider it okay to persecute them.
Oh, wait. I forgot The Rules, chiefest of which is there's one set for Christianity (it being Right, Accurate, Correct and True) and another set for all those heathens out there (being Wrong, Inaccurate, Incorrect and Untrue). And me saying that is probably a sin as well. Just add it to the list, I guess.
Well in more modern times as there were trends of seperation of Church and state, the hatred of Jews was not derived from the claim they killed Jesus or they trying to destroy christainity, it was largely due to the mistrust of them due to people out there think their is an internatonal Jewish conspiracy to underminde and destroy their countries.
The reason why the Nazis and Hitler hated Jews was that he thought they played a key role in the defeat of Germany in WW1 and they were stabbed in the back by Jews within Germany who secretly supported German enemies then and gave them assistance. In addition the Nazis believed that the communists were mostly Jews. In additon they were influenced by anti semetic ideas derived from Russia, and certain racist individuals in the USA wrote books which endorsed an eugenics type of programs designed to preseve the the purity of the Nordic race. However of course the Nazis were also influenced by anti semetic quotes from Christian preachers such as Martin Luther and certain anti semetic catholic preachers had to say. But of course even within Germany in the late 19th century there were racial nordic superoitoy organisations that were anti semetic, but then they were small in numbers and they established an settlement in South America in order to attempt to create a utopian society there.
They thought even the great depression of the 1930s was caused by Jews and when Germany was suffering from the effects of depression as well as serious financial problems early in the 1920s, they thought the Jews in Germany profited from that.
They wanted someone to blame for Germany misfortunes and used Jews as scrapegoats.

</p> In short, in the late 18C Christianity declined in favour of a new religion (or perhaps reversion to an old one) namely the worship of the State: and Jews didn't fit into the new Faith any better than the old
But that's the thing. How much is the host country responsible. Were the Jews that came to the US inherently different than those that went elsewhere or didn't leave? Of Possibly, to some extent. However, some would argue that host country has been shown to likely have as much, if not more effect on the integration of an immigrant population. This has also been shown by Chinese populations a couple generations back which moved to different countries. In South America they integrated. In the US and many Asian countries, they didn't.
As for reasons, to what some of the others have said, another factor is that Jewish culture had little problem with finance and commerce positions. These were considered unethical jobs (and to some extent still are today). So even though they used these services, the people that performed them were considered unethical. And they would owe Jews' money to boot, and who doesn't hate the people that they owe money to. Read Marx's essay about the emancipation of Jews from the Christian state. Even though a Jew himself,it represents common thinking of the times and largely consists of what would in modern days considered to be an anti-semitic rant.
