I think because most people have the wrong thought when it comes to nude beaches here in the states. They equate a nude beach with sex and equate someone being gay with sex.

Not everyone, but a majority of misguided folks I have come across do.

My first foray onto a topless beach was done by stumbling on to it without knowing it. I was in Australia and, having been out quite late the night before, was in full recovery mode. I got my towel out, and stripped down to my bathing suit. Still completely oblivious to other people on the beach. Once settled comfortably, I happened to glance up from my book and my attention was instantly captured by what I thought was a young man with the unfortunate condition of "man boobs". Apologies, but I don't know the correct medical term. I was in the midst of feeling bad for him (I'm not the most secure person in the world and thought he was being really in control of his own body issues). Until the moment "he" reached to the top of "his" head and a tumbling mane of hair cascaded down. The light finally went on for me and I IMMEDIATELY started scanning the entire beach. And please people, remember that this was in the days before Lasik and my eyes were too sore from the prior night to get my contacts in. Even with limited vision, I realized I was odd man (or girl) out all buttoned up in my bikini top!!!

It took me about a month, and then I was right there along with them!

I wouldn't call myself a naturalist, but I have never been modest and delighted in charity "naked runs" (Bare your Back for the Adirondacks) in college, and I've posed nude for drawing classes too, for extra cash. When I had an opportunity to strip down at a nude beach on Waiheke Isle near Auckland, NZ I was excited! It really is so liberating/empowering. Feeling good in your own skin is so important, and letting it all hang out, literally, is an amazing way to gain confidence and seriously just walk with your head held a little higher. I wrote about my time in Auckland here, if you're interested. Get to Know Auckland, New Zealand | | FreeLeadsHQ.comFreeLeadsHQ.com

I have seen some that are full of perverts ( cruisers and such ) and others where they were genuinely naturalists.

IMO, nudists could be anyone that chooses to visit a nude beach and partake in the activities there. A naturalist is someone who firmly believes in being nude as often as possible and will usually seek out ventures they could do nude such as swimming or hiking. Naturalists are more serious about the lifestyle I believe.

Myself, I am a naturalist.
I always thought it came down to either Nudist or Naturists (no L).

Naturists simply like skinny dipping and sunbathing in the buff.

Nudists like to do everything possible in the buff.

I have enjoyed lots of the former. The latter is not my cup of tea, but I see nothing wrong with it.

I think that children should not be allowed at these nudist/naturalist resorts. We have enough problems with child molesters snatching children and raping them even when they are fully clothed. Parents who expose their children to potential pedophiles at these places like they're a dish on the buffet table are wholly irresponsible (especially considering that these children have no choice in the matter)

And I also think that its unsanitary to be exposed to the bodily fluids of so many people. Gross.

You're right--it is "naturist" with no "L" in it, spelling error on my part I keep making.

Nudists and naturists seem to intertwine the two words together; as many who are nude as close to 100% of the time consider themselves nudists and others consider themselves naturists.

Wait a minute, Mark Foley?? Isn't this the same guy who was busted for child porn himself around 2006 that he was put in charge by Pres. Bush to oversee???

True, there are these type of bad folks who can get into some of the nudist camps, but to assume that every camp is like this, is plain wrong.

Especially so nowadays, because those that attend nudist camps now are usually screened for their background, put on a probationary time, etc.

Is everyone that enters them 100% safe? No, but when someone commits a crime within one, the camp or resort usually swiftly throws them out.

People have the incorrect impression that nudism automatically equates to sex. Too bad the US is the only civilized country that has this misconception.

Well, that is your opinion, and you're entitled to it, but how would people be exposed to bodily fluids of other individuals at the nudist resorts?
