Kansas City didn't have a good team either. A cadaver would have lost interest. Phoenix is having similar problems. Denver and Atlanta may follow.
Doesn't Minneapolis already have a NHL club in its sister city next door in Saint Paul?
I wonder why Houston isn't on the list? Houston is as large as Dallas, larger than every city on the list.
Frankly, to spread hockey as a sport into a new city, the NHL needs to think of placing a good team in the new city. Not division winners mind you, but something above doormat status.....
I wanted to choose more realistic teams, regardless of a cities size.. the people have to like the sport itself, numbers come after. By looking at the teams that are struggling at the moment, almost all of them hail from the south. That tells me that the south doesn't have much of an interest in the sport itself. Look at Phoenix, metro of over 4 million, yet can't fill their seats to 70% capacity for a single game.. to spite tickets going for $7, and quite a small minority given free. Population in numbers means nothing.

If you are referring to the KC Scouts of the 74-76 seasons, then yes. However, KC is 34 years older and wiser, and has a gorgeous, new state-of-the-art arena, and is a good sports city.
Phoenix may fold (bankruptcy). Denver/Colorado has always had a good hockey base (DU, Colorado College, Minor Leagues, etc.) and the Avalanche have a solid fan base.
I'm not sure about Atlanta. Large market, but I remember when the Flames moved to Calgary in 1980.
Location: Moose Jaw, in between the Moose's butt and nose.

Seattle is definitely the #1 spot to relocate to in my opinion. The fan base is there and the metro area is over 1 mil larger than Vancouver which easily holds it own. Also, having a team in Seattle would let people from Portland drive up to Seattle to watch a game. Plus, the Vancouver-Seattle rivalry would be intense!
Atlanta--------> Minneapolis?
Minneapolis, basically already has a team, the Wild (play literally next door in St. Paul).
Just kiddingIt would never work here. You think the flack Phoenix gets is bad....
Actually Las Vegas could make it work if they called the team the Las Vegas Victims. Then tourists from cities like Detroit, Philadelphia and New york, where you can't touch a ticket could come watch their home team pound the victims

The Winnepeg and Quebec city teams have failed and moved out.
Those locations cannot support NHL hockey.
Halifax is way too small a market.
Hamilton is a tiny market but would thrive on what would in reality be toronto money.
So what really belongs on that list as far as canadian cities is second team toronto.
Some of those US cities could support NHL hockey.
You can't solely look at the city population itself for numbers.. it's not like arena seats will sell to only city specific citizens.. Halifax could draw fans throughout all maritime provinces as well as New England (tell me how Green Bay with a population of under 100k can support an NFL team). Hamilton is a HUGE market.. exactly why Balsillie is putting over $200 million into relocating a team there. Hell if they're willing to put teams in Florida and Arizona, could a relocation to QC or Winnipeg be that detrimental to the league?
