my pet peeve is the constant use of the term "upgrade" when changing to SS appliances.
they arent better, they are just a different outaide color....
as i have said over and over, just because you change your appliances to SS, which is fine, it doesnt mean the stove is going to cook better, the fridge isnt going to keep things colder, the washer isnt going to washe the clothes better, or the dryer isnt going to dry them any faster.
face it, is your a crappy cook, no matter what color your stove is, your food will still suck.

So true! I don't know why stainless is an upgrade? Because then they can charge more.
The house I just bought, the former owner has Orange appliances from Viking. I love it, even though it's a strange color and something I would never ever choose on my own.

I am guessing that because restaurants and industrial places have the SS and are equipped to handle a larger usage than a regular home, and are more durable and made better,
but of course me and you both know it is a reason to make the consumer "think" they are getting a better product, thus, like you stated, charging more.
Which leads to the other current clone "must haves" of dark cherry cabinets and black granite.
I've got cherry cabinets but went with a lighter Corian counter to balance them. I've also got a very open kitchen that's flooded with natural light and 12 foot ceilings.
I don't have black granite or cherry cabinets - you make lots of assumptions Kyle....but let's suppose I did have those things - so what is it to you? If I like what I have that is all that matters - your opinion means nothing to me - it is just your opinion. When you come to this forum with a superior condescending attitude about what is and isn't acceptable decorating, you do nothing to endear yourself to anyone - in fact there are probably many here with black granite, cherry cabinets and stainless appliances who like them just fine. Having an opinion is fine. Insulting others because they have chosen differently than you is rude and smacks of a certain insecurity on your part. No one should have to defend their decorating choices to the point of being insulting. Love your white appliances or orange appliances or whatever - praise them and be done with it - no need to bash the choices of others.
I'm not bashing, just brought it up for those of who didn't choose the current "must have" look. Furthermore you did mention in a somewhat snotty way that your choice was "good decorating" whilst I guess the rest of us styling with lighter wood and white appliances are fortunate enough to not have our white appliances sitting out in the yard or on the front porch.
