That is gorgeous! I was looking at some quartz that is similar but not nearly as pretty. I'm not redoing my counters for a few years, maybe it will come down in price by then!
I got "Baltic Brown" granite when I redid my counters in 2003. I liked the fact it had black to blend with my appliances and taupe to go with the wall colors. By the time I moved out in '07, I was soooo sick of that busy pattern.
The next time I re-did a kitchen, I got Silestone quartz counters in a color called MontBlanc -- white with some very suble flecks of beige to give it some texture and depth. Soooo modern and clean....loved it.
If you have lots of color or pattern going on in your kitchen, or a lot of visual interest and/or an open floor plan with lots of pattern or color going on, I think some (most really) granite patterns can be VERY distracting and "busy." But it depends completely on what else is going on in the area. A wide expanse of distinctive stone can be very attractive - or very much "too much."
It would seem to me that companies selling decorating products, even furniture, come out with these so-called 'latest fashion trends' to ensure customers come back again and again to purchase the latest and greatest.
Fads in decorating are temporary. The same as any fad.
When watching any design show on TV, it always makes me laugh when I see someone punching down the top middle section of a decorator pillow placed on a sofa or bed. What is that supposed to demonstrate?
