Brass has been out for decades
Don't believe in TV in kids room
kitchen office nook is no substitute for a real office
have an expensive spa tub we have never used. Who takes baths anymore?
never did like matchy matchy furniture
love inspiration wall and whiteboard idea for kids
We have few window treatments mostly cause our lot is wooded and secluded but the glare is a problem. Will do something about that this spring
counter tile has never been a good idea no matter how cheap it is
As I said over 2 years ago on this forum (and people laughed), brass is coming back. Last year it came back strong and it is even stronger now. More gold-toned metals being offered in home decor products than I can remember for a very long time. Personally, I'm loving it, as long as it isn't polished brass everywhere. I've always liked a mixture of warm and cool metals though, regardless of what is "in". We have a mix of stainless, chrome, brass, and bronze throughout the house depending on the use and room. Works great.
Agree with the others with the exception of the kitchen office nook. These days, unless you run a full-fledged business from home, most people have no need for a totally separate office. So much stuff is electronic. My office is wherever my laptop is.
Everything comes back, so brass will too. I would have never thought the graphic 60's would be back.
Hate Chevrons, glad they are out.
I love a spa tub though, just personal preference. Would love a Japanese soak tub too.
I do think Bare Windows will survive, especially in masculine urban lofts.

When we were considering changing out the brass earlier this year, our designer - and the people at the lighting place - told us, "Errrrr, if you like it you might want to hang onto it - it's going to be coming back and we're already seeing a lot more of it."
I don't mind the mix at all. I think we're going to keep the brass in the two front rooms and foyer - if we change one we have to change them all and I think they look fine anyway. We'll probably change the fixture in the living room eventually and we've already changed the fixtures in the kitchen to a hammered pewter look. One of the benefits of having separate rooms is that everything doesn't have to match all over the house! (though I do like for things to flow)
We're seeing more call for polished brass hardware and it's been a beach to find, especially a ceiling fan. All they have is ugly rusted looking crap. How depressing! I'm not seeing any garden tubs either anymore. I am seeing more glass in the kitchen though and ultra white appliances. Buyers are still in love with the his and hers bath vanities. Seeing fewer media rooms and more room dedicated to TV and family in the kitchen area. It all changes as time goes by. The open floor plan is pretty much gone here as has side entry.
and boy, is the color they picked for this year awful. Marsala (sort of a mauve red/brown) this year, "Radiant Orchid," which was equally bad, last year.
"Out" design elements. The chevron rug in the brick loft pictured in one of the photos looks fine for the space. The bold black-and-white is a great accent. I'd probably get tired of it after a few years, but because some blog somewhere says "chevrons are out" isn't enough of a reason for me to think that it needs to go.

I like Marsala, but I'm one of those rare people whose coloring it actually flatters. I would probably not, however, use it in home decor.

I might use it in room accessories, it would work well with what I already have. And it's exactly the shade lipstick I'm always hunting for.
