We (wife and I) slept on a full sized bed for 7 years. It was not uncomfortable, except that the bed was too short for me and my feet hung over. However we did have to sleep snuggled. When we got a bigger bed (CalKing) we sometimes missed our old bed and slept on it in the guest room. It is now the guest bed and we have had several couples stay with us with no complaints.
Keep in mind that for a hundred years or more beds generally did not get any bigger than full sized. the idea that two people need a bed big enough for five is a new concept.
With a queen you probably won't have room for anything else but a nightstand, unless the dresser is very narrow. I'd also recommend the full.
You might want to consider buying one of those foundations with storage underneath for extra blankets, bedding, etc.
When it comes down to it. a good sofa bed is better than a futon and more flexible than a bed for the extra room that's only occasionally used for sleepover guests. But they're crazy expensive and heavy to move.
I'd go with trundle. The bed is a little higher, and if it's just one person (or the dog) you can make up the room like a daybed/futon with your chests or tables. If you have more than one person as guests, take out some of the furniture and make it two twins. The one underneath can be raised to the same height or put at a right angle to the existing. I've found that two people traveling or visiting sleep better on good quality mattresses as opposed to futons, sleeper sofas or in a full sized bed.
last night DH just said... "OH, i know what we can do with that room.... move your sewing machine out of the dusty dirty basement."
which would be great.... then he said... it will make more room for more machines!!
ah, the ulterior motive..... he wants a bigger shop!!
Sooo, now i have to see how i will make it all work.... sewing cabinet [btw - i need a new one] ironing board [can stick that in the closet]
get rid of that ugly makeup table MIL gave me, and a trundle.... or Full. no way a queen.
I have one of those inflatable mattresses from Overstock.com that is as high as a bed. It is less expensive than the Aerobed (?) brand. It is easy to inflate and deflate. I have a king but a queen should suffice. I slept on it for a couple of days and found it to be very comfortable. The top is made of suede so the covers don't slip on it. When your guests are gone, you just deflate and store in a bag that comes with it.
money put into A. buying a house with an extra room for guest you could put your guest in a 4 star hotel aqnd it would come out a lot cheaper............don't put to big of a bed makes room look to small........
Why not buy two small one and put them together....
I've done this before and it was really comfortable....Haha
