Our "guest room" only has a single bed in it, which we want to replace.
The bedroom is only 10x 11.5'
I dont want a bed that overwhelms the room, but something that may be comfortable for 2 people.
DH was thinking of moving our Cal King in there.... I dont think it will even fit.
Oh it will fit all right . . . But nothing else will!
I got fed up of having a room all set up for guests when I had two little boys who needed the room. We ended up getting a nice (underline nice) futon which is a queen when opened up. It works fine for when people come visit for a few days and at other times the room isn't all bed with nowhere to walk.
Do you have any idea of who your guests would typically be?
You could do a trundle bed, or daybed.
Or just do a queen--but keep the bedroom uncluttered.
the 'objects' are bed, dresser, and makeup table w/bench near the closet.
sizes are approximate.
OH, i forgot... there is a square table in the corner... but that can be removed, along with the makeup table
though if my mom, or another female was over... i'd put it back for the time being.
Is it strictly a "guest room" or would it serve you better if it had multiple uses?
If that's the case- and you don't mind spending a few dollars, consider a Murphy bed.
When not in use you gain 30-35 sq/ft of floor space.
In our last house our guest room was the same size as yours and we put a full size bed in with two nightstands on either side. It fit perfectly where it filled the room but didn't overwhelm it. None of our coupled visitors/houseguests ever complained that the bed was too small.
The futon with a good quality mattress is a great solution. Comfortable seating and doesn't take up too much space and it easily goes to a very comfortable bed.
to be honest... we call it the dogs room.
I put the bed in front of the window, and that is where he sleeps at night. obviously when we have guests, which has been 3 times in 6 yrs, the pooch moves to our room... but he loves it there. Unless it's frigid or sweltering... i leave the window open for him -- he likes to leave his snoot in the window for the air.
yea -- he's spoiled rotten... but having said all that, a futon wouldn't work -- though i'd love to do one, to also use that as a sitting room... so i've got to stick with a bed, full or queen.... most likely a full... that just makes more sense.
