Too wide!!!!!!!!! for dining.

I can't imagine 72 inches!
Sounds similar to my table, also 56" wide antique. I love it for large holiday meals and such though. You can decorate it and have enough room for the food!

I watched C'list for over a year for just this size table, in pub height. I finally found it with 8 chairs/stools and bought it all for 250.00. Patience paid off and I love the table/chairs! If you watch and are persistent, it will come!

Agree. Sounds like OP has already thought out what she wants, and is set on this. Craigslist is great, perhaps you have a handy hubby who could bond two 4X8 butcher blocks. Down here in Fla., we have a regular poster of Craigslist in Davie, Fl., who sells various sizes.
Then hubby could cut to size, bevel edges, seal. (Or hire someone with wood skills)
Legs for table easiest of all.
You can always find what you want, if you have the money and the know-how to get it.
Personally I love large tables like this.
Hope you find what you are looking for Kimmie.

The idea about the 4X8 butcher blocks is a great one. Thanks, TerraDown!

Lenniern, your post is encouraging.

I still love the idea of a large table. I don't mind if it takes wear and tear from projects and whatever we use it for besides dining.

Any wear and tear would just personalize it to your family, and give you great memories to reminisce over with the kids and grand kids.

If you go the bonded butcher block route, remember to add table legs in the center for added support. That's a lot of wood to be riding on just the 4 corners.

You can seat more people at an oval table than square or round. I agree that it would be very hard to reach something in the middle. Or like I've seen in Chinese restaurants, a large square table with a lazy susan in the middle, that might work for you too. Just an idea.

A table of that width has centerpieces/decoration in middle, not food items, imho. No-one needs to reach the center, except to change the centerpiece(s)

Believe it or not we found something very similar at Sam's Club. It's held up very well over the 4 years we've had it. No sign of the chairs getting loose and the table is very solid.
