I used to have one of those. Under the skirt I had so much crap piled up - books, papers, boxes - it was nearly a safety hazard.

I think everything should be put where one uses it. Cooking utensils next to the stove. In my end table I have everything I might need once I'm in bed and don't want to get up. On the top: my clock, a lamp, a place for my glasses, kleenex.

My 1 drawer has cough drops, antacids, foot creme. My open space underneath has a pretty flowered box with my hair curlers. Yes I occasionally use them and I put them in while I'm sitting on the bed ready to jump in. A book if I'm reading one.

Drawer can be a catch-all, though. I just cleaned mine out and this is what I left in it.

The thing is that now my bed sits in the middle of the room. I am there, like sleeping beauty, awaiting for my prince to arrive.....which usually means a cat leaping atop of me.

There is no furniture next to the bed since that would turn the space around the bed into a catwalk.....and folding laundry last week, I noted how good it was to be away from that!

I might keep a holster clipped to the bed frame (box) with a flash light perhaps but...........living in the house is still very new, still very much the honeymoon, it will be quite a while till I decide what I really want by my bed.

Just checked mine. A Dorothy Parker short story anthology, a spare pair of readers and sex stuff.

I know I posted on this thread much earlier. I've since cleaned it out and now have swimsuits in the top drawer, pajamas in the middle drawer and my belts and a small clutch purse in the bottom drawer.

I don't read in bed nor do I take medications... yet

No flashlight there. If electric goes out while I'm sleeping, I won't know till morning anyway. I'm a heavy sleeper.

Hubby has some cuff links in his top drawer, the rest are empty. His office is his place to keep any meds, flashlight etc..
