What do y'all do in your dining room for the holidays? Looking for ideas as we've never had a dining room before and I'm stumped as to what to use for centerpieces. I've googled and found some ok options but nothing that was quite right. Pictures would be even better!

I have several depending upon what I am doing. A table runner with pinecones and greenery on it and a few candles, a large footed bowl (think like a brandy snifter on steroids) with glass balls in it surrounding a candle, three tiny trees, one 15 inches in the center and a 12 inch on each side with some white birch branches.

You are only limited by your imagination.

When I had company for Thanksgiving, if someone asked what to bring, my answer to one of them (usually my sister in law who was a floral designer, was a centerpiece). I only want fresh flowers or evergreens for my holiday table.
You can collect some local pine cones and evergreens and make something beautiful.

I have a red Christmas tree that matches the door wreath I use for the holidays. I place in a pedestal I made by turning a Goodwill plate (green) upside down on top of the bottom of an identical plate. I hold the two together with museum putty. I place the red Christmas tree on the green "pedestal". I also have tall brass candlesticks that I use with the centerpiece. I have a long, fringed green and white cotton Turkish textile that I use as a table runner under the centerpiece.

When I set the table for our holiday meal, I remove the tree and runner, and put down a table cloth. I like to make a centerpiece from greenery from our yard for the meal.

I put a christmas wreath upside down on my chandelier. My chandelier actually hangs low (the actual suggested height) over my table, so visually it is noticeable (as opposed to up at the ceiling). Sometimes I've hung some small ornaments. My chandelier is relatively contemporary (ORB finish, elongated) - not a crystal type.

A few winter/holiday pieces (ornaments in a mercury glass vase / apothecary jar) on the buffet or center of the table. A festive tablecloth, etc.. Usually we'll get an evergreen arrangement that will go on the table as we get closer to the holidays itself.

Of course, we don't use the dining room, so this is all for my own personal aesthetics. So I just put the same sorts of holiday things in there that I do in the other rooms. I don't do anything particularly "Dining-room-y" - other than the table cloth of course!

a small Festivus Pole makes for a lovely table centerpiece...and then, the airing of the grievances!

Thanksgiving table is a traditional cornucopia overflowing with nuts, pine cones and wheat shafts. This is low enough to stay on the table during the meal.
Christmas is a tall thick silver vase with artificial poinsettias. This stays on the table during the season, but is removed for dinner since it is too tall for cross table conversation.
The dinner centerpiece is a long shallow dish filled with Christmas bulbs, greenery and tea lights.

Wow Kathryn, that looks great! You go all out!!

Retire-great idea with artificial poinsettias. I love them but they're not pet friendly so artificial is a good way to go!
