Hi all! I have to make my finally design decisions on my new construction house in the next 24 hours, and I'm having a hard time figuring out what color tiles go with the cabinets and countertops I picked out for my kitchen.

I have a dark, cherry-colored maple (the color is called Cordovan) for the cabinets, and for countertops I have an upgraded WilsonArt laminate called "Blackstar Granite". Oh, and my appliances are all black.

So I need to pick my ceramic tiles and I am having a really hard time. Someone told me that I cannot go with a light beige or cream-type color because of the blackstar granite...and that I need to pick a tile color with cooler undertones. But I honestly don't understand the whole color family deal, and my brain is so fried from looking at so many different ones that I can't seem to judge it correctly anymore.

Does anyone have any suggestions for my tile colors?

Also (though this isn't as urgent), which paint colors (light colors) would look good with this color scheme? Warms or cools?

Thanks!!!

Is your choice open ended? Type of tile- ceramic, porcelein, etc.?
How about slate?
Have you seen a slate tile called California Gold? From that tile you could pick a wall color. It has a great mix of warm hues.

Well, slate would be a bit cost prohibitive at this point for me (too many upgrades in other areas). But you mention that the one you were thinking of is a warm color. Does that mean that it is okay for me to have warm tones? I received some advice from the person at the design studio for my builder and she said to choose something cool due to the color of "Blackstar Granite". But I'm not sure if I necessarily agree with her.

imo
I think going with warm colors will be fine. do you have a lot of light and space? or is the kitchen small and kinda dark? that makes a huge difference.
personally I love neutral floors.
if your kitchen is on the small dark side I would have to agree to go with more of a cool color. If not though I think you can go with almost anything you want.

Yep, I have a big window and it's quite a large kitchen.

I think a light bluish-grey color would look good with the black appliances & granite (it would lighten things up) & the cherry-finished cabinets (since cherry colors have a tint of blue in them). I wouldn't pick a dark-colored tile otherwise your kitchen will be way too dark (even if it gets alot of light). Hope this helps.

I think it's a personal preference. I think light colored tiles would look very nice with darker cabinets and countertops. Sounds like it would contrast nicely.

We have cabinets in the same color you're talking about, and UbaTuba (black/green/gold) granite tops. We used Gunstock oak flooring, and it's a great combination. If I was going to substitute tile for the wood, I'd probably go with something in a rust, gold, or green range- something with some variation and a somewhat natural look.

I think a beige tile wood look nice with your cabinets and countertop. If you have a cabinet door and a countertop sample tile available, just bring them with you to the tile store. Beige has many different tones such as pink, gold grey etc., you will have many choices. Good luck.

I, too, think slate (or slate look) would be nice.
