Of course the house and grounds would have to be compatible and are not my style but i do appreciate the talent and patience to execute such a beautiful feature.
I suspect that LOTS of safety minded inspectors would be going nuts with this sort of artistic application of tile outdoors -- in bad weather (or even coming up from the beach with wet / sandy feet) this thing could be downright hazardorous. Add in the potential for someone that had a few drinks or such in 'em to be completely "hip MO tized" and a call to 911 would be the result...
It looks as if you have to stand at the bottom of the staircase and look up to get the stunning design. Looking down, all you would see would be the treads.
Probably not as much of a tripping hazard as you might expect. I would hope the tread tiles are slip resistant.
Yeah - as far as safety goes the treads themselves look perfectly normal, its just the risers that have the mosaic part.
And both of those staircases are absolutely beautiful. If I lived in one of the hill houses (sometimes 30+ steps from street to front door) - I could only wish to have something as beautiful as those.
