Okay, you know the little square frames you insert into a regular window that makes the window look like maybe six 9 1/2"X 6 1/2" square windows? I need to know the proper name of those and also we seem to have some kind of clamps that don't exist that hold these in place in the window. Our windows are 10 years old. Any suggestions where I could find a good selection of clamps as such?? Already tried Lowes and Home Depot with no success. Just knowing what these goodies are called would be a good start!! Oops..I ment "these" called in the thread tital..

I think they are called a "grill" insert. Jay

Ok...typically the vertical members of windows and doors are called styles and the horizontal parts are called rails.

The inserts you speak of to make a one piece window look like an older 3 over 2 for example is called a grille. They too come in many different designs and of course vary by manufacture. Here is a link to the grille section on the Andersen Window web site for an example.

Okay, it's called a "grill". Got that.....now for the actual "clip" that holds this grill in. It's a little metal u-shaped goodie that has one sharp end that goes into the frame of the window. The other end is more rounded and makes it "spring into palce". Am I making any sense at all?? Perhaps it's outdated---but in only 10 years? Seems no one has it. Almost looks like a "U" but with a point at one end. I give up!!! But you guys are great--Thanks!!!

glad to hear a proper name for them. I always used to call them panel inserts.

I remember one brand I used to see that the mullion was just glued to the glass with some type of contact cement. If you cannot find a clip, you can always try that. The cement rubs off easily and if you have mullions on both sides of the glass it is totally hidden, if not just be stingy with the cement.

Now that is an idea. Did consider a glue gun...but...cleaning the window might be a challenge. Sure would be nice to just find those friggin' clips.

I would not glue it to the glass. You will have a terrible time cleaning them then. Use the clips so the grille can be removed and you could easily clean the window.

Also note that a grille is removable but mullions are not. Mullions are structural elements of a window when you have multi-panes, not a single pane of glass with a removable divider. Those dividers are called grilles. Jay
