Ok, every now and then, I'll see a gnat flying around especially my computer screen. Anyhow, I keep my garbage can covered, but I sometimes still see the little pests. I've only been in the apartment going on two months, but they've been my only bug problem so far.

Do you have any houseplants? I had a money tree, one of those small trees with the braided trunk and bunches of leaves in threes and fives. It would get little flies from time to time.

Yep house plants can do it - I am pretty sure that is where mine originate from time to time - They can also come up through your drains - a little vinager from time to time helps.

Set out a little container of a squirt of dish soap and a little vinager - that will attract them and they will end up swimming in the mixture!

I don't have any plants, but being a busy college student, I umm forgot to wash some dishes where I cooked some lasanga. >_>

Anyhow, I cleaned and disinfected the area with pine sol.

I've never heard of them coming from the drain before. Does the vinegar kill them?

It's acidic, so it probably kills them. When we get ants in the house, I spray them with Windex. The ammonia kills them. Vinegar is probably the same way--it's Nature's Windex.
