We got an Oreck XL almost 15 years ago as it was lightweight and seemed to work well on the Tile floors. Had to have it repaired a few times and will not buy another one. The little canister that they give you is not that great either. I inherited my moms fairly new Electrolux which we will use when the Oreck finally dies. It is SO plastic though. She always bought Electroluxes. I remember the first ones when they were on a "sled " type runners. LOL But that thing was built like a tank, all metal.
I kept telling my husband that I didn't think we needed a new vacuum after I cleaned my Dyson. Where did we end up yesterday? Bed Bath & Beyond. He brought me there to get the Shark Rotator Professional Lift Away. BB&B had the best attachment package plus a home/car detailing kit. I did notice there was a dusting attachment on the one at Best Buy, but I thought the detailing kit was nice to have and 20% off a BB&B was a good deal.
This week I vacuumed and shampooed my upstairs carpet & then after it dried completely, I vacuumed again. With the Dyson. I vacuumed with it completely clean - cannister cleaned, filter cleaned, brushbar degunked, etc.
Then yesterday I vacuumed with the Shark. I was completely disgusted with how much crap was in the cannister. I love it. I don't know if it will stand the test of time, but so far so good. I love how verstile it is and using the hose with the attachments is much nicer than my old Dyson. I also love that it fits underneath the edges of my cabinets, beds, and fits in more nooks and crannies than my Dyson.
Completely impressed with it. Thanks for all of your input!
I recently bought a Shark Rocket HV301 and I love it. It works great on hard surface or rugs. I just wish it had a small 3' hose so that I could use it to vacuum the car.
I will just add that my central vac did not do nearly as good a job as my Dyson DC41. Also, it seems like it would be hard to retrofit a central vac.
When my Dyson quits, I will get another one, but it will be a smaller, more nimble model than the one I have now. My only complaint is mine is a bit hard to push on carpet.
My wife wants a Dyson Slim, but I'm reluctant at $286. The dirt canister is tiny! We already have a full-size Dyson animal vacuum.
I also own a cordless Shark vacuum. It has been a great vacuum for the last 2 years, but recently, the hose broke between the "head" that touches the floor and the body of the vacuum. I tried to take the vacuum apart to replace the hose, but I couldn't figure out how to do it. At this point, I'm debating getting the Dyson Slim.
