I have an avocado green refrigerator and stove......both work just fine.
They were here when I moved into this house in 1983......wasn't fond of the color but it just goes against my grain to throw away perfectly good appliances.
I look at it this way......how many new refrigerators could I have had by now if I replaced the green one when I moved in?
Two? Three?
Would my savings in electricity have made up for the cost of two new refrigerators? Never mind the PIA factor of shopping for and installing a new one.
Ask any appliance repairman how long the new ones last compared to the old ones and how much more often they need repaired.
If the "greenies" want me to replace this fridge because it uses more electricity than the new ones......fine.....just find me a new fridge that is guaranteed to last at least 30 years and I'll do it. BTW.....while they are at it, I don't want stainless steel, or black or white.....I want almond.
One more thing.........how "green" is it to fill up landfills with appliances that are not made to last?

It's fine to save the old one's if they are functioning properly and you don't mind paying the higher electricity costs.
However, these old units are mostly recycled now with a very small percentage of the old equipment going to a landfill. Utilities pay to remove your old fridge. It's quite interesting the creative ways companies have found to recycle the various parts of a refrigerator.

Did you know that you can paint them to shine like the new stainless steel ones.
OP, don't change, it's a waste of money and as someone else said it will take you 10 years to recover the money you spend on a new fridge and by then you will need to buy another one. The new ones are not built to last like the one you have. I bought a new french doors one in Feb and already the ICE maker is not working (need to call them to fix it). I don't see it lasting me 25 years, if it lasts 5 years I will be happy and it cost $1500

Yes, I know, but I can't imagine it would hold up as well as the original paint that was baked on.
I can imagine it nicking and scratching very easily, unlike the original finish, and then having the green sticking out like a sore thumb, looking ghastly within a year or two.
Anyway, after all of these years, I have made peace with the avocado green.
Hopefully, when this fridge finally bites the dust, almond will be in style. I don't like the colors available now anymore than I like the green, I would have to settle for white.
If it is big enough for you and works just fine, it's probably worth keeping.
If you keep your eyes on the market and find a really nice top of the line Viking or something on an unbeatable sale, consider upgrading, but know you don't have to.
