Kirkland liquid is my preference, whether the clothes are lightly soiled or filthy.
Costco makes pretty good products with that Kirkland line.
The problem is, you go there to save money on the detergent and one or two other things, and find yourself purchasing $200 of other good Kirkland products, like say, a case of their sparkling wine (regular and rose). Maybe that's just me though...

Yep... just you! Especially as Costco cannot sell wine/beer in PA (archaic state store system).
Funny that so many of you like Costo Kirkland brand, so do I. As a single guy, I have learned to do laundry and was surprised how well it works and how little you need per load. But I have to force myself to drive across town to Costco, so sometimes I just buy Tide liquid, and it really does not work as well.
One Christmas party, I was showing my Son's GF the Costco stuff and telling her how well it works, and my Son said, "We've really gone downhill. We used to talk about cars and guy stuff, now we have degraded to talking about laundry detergents !"
For those that don't know, and why you may be happy with Kirkland products, is that all those private label brands are just rebadged major retail brands.
Here's some info on Costco's Kirkland brand...
Costco’s Kirkland Signature Products
Shampoo is said to be made by Pureology
Super Premium ice cream is made by Humboldt Creamery
Tuna fish is made by Bumble Bee
Diapers are likely made by Huggies
Liquor: Jim Beam makes the bourbon, Grey Goose makes the vodka, and the Scotch is a Macallan 18
The detergent isn't listed but I wouldn't be surprised if it was Tide or similar.
I use All liquid for the very reason that it is less costly than Tide. I can get it at Costco, but I also can get it at my local supermarket. It seems to work fine for me.
All I know about washing clothes is: I want them clean.
