Awesome, thank you. I am going to replace the T8s our basement game room with these. It will be expensive since we have 24 bulbs in there, but well worth it. There are always at least ten of them not working. Ballasts, bulbs or just general crankiness. I despise T8s, I have to fiddle with them and or replace things at least monthly. Hooray! Freedom is on its way.

In general, I find that you can replace bulbs with half of what you had. remember LED doesn't send light out in 360 degrees. It's focused so all the light goes downward. So, if you have dual-ballast fixtures with 4 bulbs, you can generally replace with only 2 LEDs.

I think you will probably have to order those bulbs from Home Depot online. When I've gone to their store, every Toggled LED they have had has been the Dimmable ones.. Which are about double the price of the non-dimmable.

Someone mentioned tombstone replacement. The Toggled bulbs come with tombstones. However, you only need to replace if your existing ones are shunted. Which means, take a meter and measure resistance from side to side. If there is none.. It's shunted.

Also remember to look at the bulbs when you install. The end with the writing is the one that power should go to. Several times I've stuck the bulb in, it didn't work and I started cussing, then figured out.. Yep.. Installed the bulb backwards.

So call a couple of electricians and ask them what they charge. Usually there is a set fee for the first half hour then a set per hour fee thereafter. Ask if they will come out and give you an estimate for the job.

Those are the "Cool White" light (4000k).. Much softer light.. They also have a 5000k that I am not a fan of..
I’m not sure how 4000K would be softer than 3500K. The higher the number the more blue and sterile looking the light is. 3500K should be similar color to halogen, and the typical ‘soft white’ is usually 2700K.

The home where I grew up had 1960's T12 4' bulbs...

It was like Frankenstein's laboratory until the bulbs warmed up and then the starters would go out...

A couple of years ago I replaced the 12 bulbs with 8 Costco direct replacement bulbs... just popped in the bulbs and what a difference!!!

The lights come right on, are silent and the quality of the light is vastly improved.

So far it has been a win all the way around plus the lower power cost.

I'm scheduling for a electrician to do the conversion. $177 for all four light fixtures including LEDs bulbs. What lumens and brightness should I use?

Dumb question but how do I know I have fluorescent bulbs and not LED's already?
My house was build in 2013.

LED bulbs are marked- they have to go in one way; otherwise they are not as bright as possible.

LED's would be considered "directional" light- as opposed to fluorescent; which is a gas that "spreads" light all over.

Should I be see ballast in the light fixture if it's fluorescent?
