Our previous new build home had a standard 20 x 20 garage that could barely fit two sedans. That's pretty common in lower to mid price point as three car garages are optional. Our current 3700 sq ft home has a two car garage. our neighborhood is a mix of two and three cars. It is 484 sq ft, that's enough. I don't need more garage space, that extra bay would be useless to us and would frankly look weird with our home. We store our stuff overhead and we have an airplane runway type of driveway to accommodate probably eight additional cars. We only park one car in the garage. the older vehicle is parked in the driveway.
Agreed. That's why I said 'functional'. Retirement house we bought earlier this year has a one car garage. I can actually put a Dodge quad cab (6 ' bed) in it with a couple feet to spare behind it... but only one person is opening a door to get out. We'll replace the garage when we move.
