I recently bought a Whirpool. The only reason I bought it was because most other new refrigerators have mixed reviews and the builder already selected Whirlpool for the other appliances. After having a horrible experience with a Samsung refrigerator, I made sure to get the extended warranty.
First step is to actually MEASURE the space where the refrigerator goes. From the dozens of models available, you might find that only 2 fit your available space. And not just width, height as well. Start there. You might have visions of a stainless french door bottom freezer unit, but end up with a white top freezer model because that's the only one that fits....
I did measure i could go with a larger refrigerator but i want a 22 cu ft. Counter depth. I hate the refrigerator sticking out into the room.
I was thinking of purchasing the extended warranty as I have read as much as possible and it concerns me. I have always loved Jenn Air but they no longer carry the smaller refrigerator that were counter depth. I was considering Kitchen Aid and Bosch. I really liked the looks of the LG but linear compressors seem to not last long. I do want a bottom freezer since we have a garage freezer and use that most of the time . I am looking for a refrigerator on top. I appreciate all the replies.
I did not know about the LG linear compressor problems until I read your post and did a little more research. That is really concerning since I bought a new LG fridge a few months ago. Mine is a single door with bottom freezer, and was the only one I could find that was 33” wide. Overall I like the fridge, I just hope the problems have been resolved.
Whirlpool made Kenmore sears didn’t build their own appliances.
As a clarification, Kenmore appliances are built my a number of manufacturers. Whirlpool did make a lot of the refrigerators, but others as well. I was in a Sears a few months back and their were clearly LG manufactured refrigerators there, among others.
One thing we all know for sure and that is everything is being made cheaper these days. I would talk to repairmen and get their opinions, plus check the availability of parts. I've heard Samsung and LG can make for a longer wait due to ordering of parts which if it was a Whirlpool or General Electric for instance and the repair shop didn't have the part in stock, it wouldn't be much of a problem getting it. When your fridge goes on the blink timing becomes crucial.
