This is the only one annoying thing I have found in anyone's home. When someone has 2-3 dogs and a cat or two (I'm allergic) that stay inside all day and night, just a quick vacuuming doesn't do the trick. They get so used to it that they don't even notice any more, but for visitors it's definitely "blech!" time.
Decorative towels. My MIL always puts out frufru towels in the guest baths - ones that have lace or bows or embroidery. Just stop. I want to wash my hands or take a shower. I don't care to have lace scrape me or feel that I can't scrub my hands and mess up the pretty hand towels.
If I am not spending time there I won’t be annoyed. But if I am to spend any amount of time in someone’s house, I get annoyed when the seating is uncomfortable. I have experienced sitting on a small, hard, unstable chair, sitting on an old, low sofa, sitting on a metal chair that stabbed me in the back. That’s just recently.
The people whose houses I visit have clean houses. But I agree that a dirty house is a real turn off. I don’t to stay and talk—that’s for sure.
