Our Maytag dishwasher recently stopped working; specifically, the control panel still lights up and you can choose a wash cycle, but the start/resume and cancel buttons over towards the right of the control panel are unresponsive. Based on what troubleshooting I've been able to do, it's evidently a problem with the control panel, in that those nonworking buttons are not making contact with the circuitry in order to function properly. So, I've ordered a replacement control panel, on the grounds that even if I end up having to call someone in, I'll still save some money by not having to buy the part from the technician. The new part won't be here for a few days so I have some time to prepare myself for the job.
The control panel has a ribbon connector that passes under the buttons and connects to the control board, which actually controls the dishwasher. In order to replace the control panel, I'll need to disconnect the old ribbon connector from the control board, then connect it up with the new connector. The problem is, I don't see how to get the old ribbon connector out. It's down at the bottom of a tiny narrow space I can't reach into. Naturally, I tried to see if there was a way to lift out the control board, but I couldn't do it. I was able to detach some wires that obviously meant to be plugged or unplugged freely, but there was another connector that looked as if it had been soldered in, and I was afraid to tug at it.
How can I get at this ribbon connector?
Can anyone here link to detailed instructions for installing this part on a Maytag MDB7749AWM1 dishwasher?
In case anyone else needs this, note that it's much easier to watch on YouTube--preferably on a tablet or computer, where you can go full screen and really see what's happening. Just make sure to include the part number in your YouTube search.
