Those prices are happening everywhere from what I’m seeing and hearing.
As long as we all know and understand massive profits are being made on these insurance jobs
I guess it’s the same for new homes. A friend of mines brother builds 500-700k homes. I think he said something like 250-300k pure profit each. I’d have to check again but that’s what I remember. Nuts if you ask me
Your hail damage was so severe that it earned you AN ENTIRE NEW ROOF?
Really?!!
Apparently that is common in some places in the U.S. It's definitely not common in New England, where I live. Even if we had a huge hail storm, I cannot imagine my insurance company saying, "OK, Karen, here's $25,000 for your new roof, courtesy of us!"
So while you're pissed off at the contractor making so much profit (and frankly, I agree with you), I am pissed off at insurance rates going up because somehow SOME insurance companies in SOME areas of the country pay for ENTIRE NEW ROOFS at the hint of damage.
(And frankly, of course, I'm jealous as he**, because of course the $25,000 for MY new roof in a few years will come out of MY pocket, not the insurance company's. )

45-65% “pure profit”!?
Jeez; really? You got suckered if you believe that!!!

How else are they going to pay 60k-70k for a new truck?
Is that a lot? Not really, no. It takes a lot money to run a business. Payroll, licensing, business insurances, employee benefits, administrative cost, taxes, etc. They showed up, got the job doen effeciently and correctly and teh price was in line with I would expect a new roof to cost. Given the difficulty with getting contractors and materials right now and with prices being drive through teh roof due to the cost of shipping containers and disruptions in the supply chain, I would say you got great deal especially since it was covered by insurance.
If this thread didn’t have illegals and covid treatment in it, it might just be a couple posts long.
Apparently what was missing for the OP was data that described actual business costs and expenses; a full breakout, along with the profit margin. If it was a singularly high quote, then why did he go with that one? Maybe roofing is an industry that has a high profit margin because it’s a brutal job. Even repairing ten shingles that blow away on a high angle roof is expensive to simply “reattach”.
Mowing grass is easier than roofing, hence less profit margin.
