Is there anything or any product that can be sprayed or spread on grass that can slow grass growth?

I don't want to kill it.
I just want to retard growth so I can mow less often.

Thanks.

You want “No Mow” created by my team in an MBA class in 1977.

Or, you could read https://www.lawn-care-academy.com/pl...egulators.html

Thanks so much. I read the article.

I think I found something I can work with: The Andersons Governor G Granular Lawn Growth Regulator - Covers up to 20,000 sq ft (34 lb)

Can order it online and through Home Depot for pick up.

*ETA: Oh.... AND... I found this which may be even better! -- Slow Mow Lawn Conditioner by BioAdvanced.

It's in a smaller bag. I guess I'll just get it off of Amazon.
I've watched a couple of homeowner YouTube videos and from what they said and showed it seemed to work.

(I am absolutely trying to mow as little as possible but have to deal with the grass, which of course I don't want to get 18 inches tall between mows. So I'm thinking slowing the growth would help.)

And what does it do to the rest of the world out there including pollinators? Will you please sprinkle some on a toe and let us know?

This. Water less. Your grass may not stay uniformly green all the time but it won't die completely and you wouldn't need to pour nasty chemicals (with unknown negative effects to other creatures) on it. Neither you nor your inconvenient grass exist in a vacuum OP.

^^ I don't water it at all now.

I'd gladly pay someone else to mow it, as I did when I was in a SFH.
And I do pay my nephew -- when he decides he's available.

Now I'm in a townhouse, with no access to the small-ish (20x30) landlocked backyard -- other than through the house itself.

And, no, I am not willing to have someone enter my home, to mow my yard with my own lawnmower that's already in the backyard.

Thus I'm looking for options to slow the grass growth.

Depends on the grass. Fescue goes dormant in the summer can look horrible. Warm season grasses like Bermuda, Centipede, etc love the heat.

Please research the product you plan on putting in your plot. Especially for animals/birds.

I'm not saying every chemical is gov't approved as safe. But I'm not so anti-chemical that I won't try something I think might work.

1) I'll try it once or twice over the summer 2) I'll wear gloves a mask ,etc.,.... 3) I do have skunks I'd like to get rid of....

I think it will be all right.

IF I don't think it's worth it, then I won't use it again.
