I use to love using powdered laundry soap with a regular clothes washer. On a whim I looked at the selection of powder laundry detergent and saw they were listed as high efficiency washer compatible. I have a top load high efficiency washer. Have any of you tried powdered laundry detergent in such a washer? Any issues you noticed that made you switch back to liquid?

I have in a front loader. I'll put it this way - the only way I would ever use it again is if I put the danged stuff in a blender with water first and mixed it for five minutes. I don't know how powder can find pockets or folds to hide in and not dissolve, but it does.

Mine is also a front load. Powder just doesn't work. Maybe it will in a top loader.

The machine may only be part of the equation. What's your household water chemistry like? Liquid detergents tend to work better than powdered in hard water.

While powdered detergents may be listed as HE compatible, the dispensers of many newer HE washers are designed for liquid only.

Powdered detergents form a hard crust in septic tanks.

I no longer use them.

Cheap ones - maybe. High quality - l doubt.
Also never found any pockets full of powder.
l use Persil powder detergent for most fabrics, except very dark - then l use Persil liquid. Both are septic safe.

Tide is also great, quality laundry detergent, but detergents from Arm & Hammer, Tide, and Gain all recently tested above the new legal limit for a probable carcinogen. Banned in some countries.

Have not tried powered but am tempted due to packaging. I try to not buy anything in plastic jugs.

Earth Breeze works great in my top loading HE wash. Sometimes in a cold short wash it does not dissolve, it will cling to the side of the tub. I've been using it a couple years. If they don't get the price down I will try powered.

I've been seeing ads for Earth Breeze and want to try it in order to get rid of plastic jugs. I don't do lots of laundry, so the price per load won't influence me that much. However, my "cold" water is really cold, probably much colder than many laundry product manufacturers imagine, even in summer. I'd be somewhat concerned about the sheets dissolving well, but if that happens, I'm planning to melt a sheet in a small amount of lukewarm faucet water and pour that into the washer. Essentially a liquid without the jug !

I honestly didn't know you could still buy powdered laundry detergent (not that I'm interested)
