The Allegheny County Fire Marshal’s Office said it was investigating multiple possibilities, including the homeowners having “hot water tank issue.
The investigation is ongoing but can a water heater cause such explosion?
Seriously doubt one water heater could cause an explosion powerful enough to destroy 6 homes. While a gas leak is powerful enough to destroy the home,…would it be powerful enough to destroy 6 homes? Makes me wonder if there weren’t explosives stored at the home.
Multiple houses exploding due to NG is not something new. This occurrence has happened several times in the past few years.
If I recall, there were issues of spike pressures in the supply lines that could overwhelm metering devices. Any standing pilot would certainly be an igniter!
And yes, there have been reports of W/H’s rocketing through roofs and landing in streets, or on other homes.
