I like bright gloss white (with a hint of blue) to reflect light downwards, especially in the winter. I have a LOT of 4-inch-wide maple trim (old farmhouse) that could be overwhelming with other dark colors. I also have some unusual slanted ceilings upstairs (in one bedroom the ceiling is practically a wall; it is a 45-deg angle!) and the white makes the wall colors POP.
That is a really pretty red on that ceiling, though, pennquaker! I will never paint my wood trim white, but if I did, that would be an amazing color combination.
I really despise textured ceilings; no matter what color you paint them they seem to absorb light!!!
Oh geez. You all have been so helpful. Now I have to make a decision on something.
Thanks to everyone for your help and advice.
Love the red dining room ceiling.
