I know exactly what you are talking about.
Change brands. I bought a brand, don't remember what it was (maybe glad), and it smelled horrible as did the food. I use hefty now and there is no smell.
This makes total sense to me, I've had the same experience. Airing out the bags or rinsing and drying them and then airing them helps. I stopped buying Ziplock and only buy Hefty, which doesn't have nearly as much smell. I've noticed lately that I get a yukky smell from some in-store bakery bread bags too (which affects the taste of the bread, esp. if toasted), and even from the plastic bags at my favorite bakery. This is relatively new (they must have changed their supplier). Maybe you and I are the ''canaries'' on this! Or just have good noses.
