I am considering getting a new front door installed. It looks like 3 pieces of trim boards will have to be removed to pop out the existing door frame to install a new pre-hung door. I have the know-how to install the new trim pieces, but how much would someone charge to do the door installation work?
If i'm looking at buying a $600 door, how much more do you think installation would be?
It's probably going to be $300-$500 to have it installed.
If you want a quote without an obligation, you might try Home Depot. They have signs around the store that say stuff like, "Installation for only $xxxx". They might be able/willing to give you a very close estimate right then and there.
Two years ago I paid $175.00 to have one installed.. It took the guy about an hour to do it... I had him use the old trim because there was nothing wrong with.
He is a self employed home repair guy... I got his business card at Mc Coys.. He also put in a door at my rent house for the same price... He does all kinds of home repairs and is real good at it.
And it was last year not two years ago...the wife corrected me...LOL....
Just last week I had two 30x40 windows installed, which included some new drywall and 2x4's and new trim on inside. Also a new front prehung door which took about 3hrs due to some modifing. Door is a regular house exterior door being installed in my old 3 1/2 inch thick mobilehome wall doorway. Anyway total install was 175.00.
I just got his name out of classified in newspaper as Handyman. Does excellent work. Probably cheaper now cause of slow winter months.
If you want someone who will stand behind their work, is licensed, and insured (both workman's comp and general liability)- expect the $300-500 labor invoice.
Remember, you get what you pay for. I would also recommend that you not buy the unit yourself. Whoever you decide to hire- let them measure, order, and deliver (or have delivered). That way if it isn't right, it's on them not you.

That would be hard to do here being that they don't have to have a license to put in a door . Or need to have a license to be a contractor here.
Both of my doors are doing just fine.. And I have a third one in the garage..and the same guy will be putting it in as soon as it warms up..
Doors come in fixed sizes unless it was custom made and that in most homes is very unlikely..
And if you did get the wrong size it would be no problem exchanging it.
Try your local Craigslist in the Services section under skill'd trade. You can find handymen who do a good job but make sure you get references.
I would check with a local building center... I was able to ask about the guy I'm using..These guys buy their supplies there and are known..
