I was wondering if Greenspoint is the same as I remembered it.
There's a little area of Austin that reminded me of a mini-Greenspoint.
To me, Greenspoint looked like it was built in the 70's, and was popular at that time. Then it got an overhaul in the mid-late 80's and was popular all over again. That area just seemed to be stuck in an 80's time-warp. There are nice hotels (heck, is the mall even still there?) and shopping, but the roads were terrible...and it had the knickname 'Gunspoint.' Has that area picked up any?

I think the roads are horrible in most of Houston, not just Greenspoint. Far too many potholes and uneven surfaces for a city that doesn't have 'frost heaves' in the winter.

Greenspoint is still called "Gunspoint". I work in the Greenspoint area, but I
certainly wouldn't live there.

Yup, the mall is still there. Though I've never been inside.

True - they just seemed particularly bad in Greenspoint, especially close to 45.

For years it was the only Mall serving an area from Champions up to the Woodlands over to Kingwood. It remains as one of the largest business districts serving North Houston, but certainly isn't a big draw for families anymore. Too much riff-raff in the apartments and area around it. They did spruce up the apartments a bit around 2000 - but they weren't very successful in sprucing up the occupants.

Blah, Gunspoint is such a terrible area. The crime there is RIDICULOUS.

I used to go to greenspoint regularly about 15 years ago. I wouldn't go again. I stay away from that area. It is alot more dangerous then it used to be. Only good part is the hotels and airport.

Wow, that's interesting to hear about Greenspoint area nowdays. I used to travel to Houston almost 20 years ago and regularly stayed at the Greenspoint Wyndham. It's an absolutely beautiful hotel. I know a lot of big affairs were being held there at that time. BUT, I also remember traveling just a mile or so around the neighborhood and noticing how it sure didn't match the hotel's appearance!!
And I agree it's the apartment areas that are the worse....one thing I liked tho, there was a Jack-in-the Box right across from the mall! :-)

The Wyndham is a beautiful hotel and the office buildings in the area are nice. It's just all those damn apartments in that area and the riff-raff that live in them. Not as bad as the SW side, but that's not saying much.
