Hi,

My fiance and I are currently looking to purchase our first home and we are considering the Sugar Land area and we would greatly appreciate some info. We are both in our mid 20's, I work for an oil and gas firm (either energy corridor or downtown) and my fiance works in the Medical Center therefore we have been looking around New Territory for our home.

I guess our main question is - where in Sugar Land would you recommend a young couple looks for a house?

We love being outdoors and we have a +50lbs dog so anywhere friendly for pets etc would be ideal.

Any info or recommendations you may have would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!!

why specifically has your family chosen Sugar Land if you are both working closer to the city?

I currently live in the Meyerland/Westbury neighborhood with a lot of young families and live within 10 miles from downtown and 5 miles from the med center. sugarland to med center or downtown can be a pain of a drive.

I guess our main reason is budget, sqft for $$'s etc..... Plus we are thinking of starting a family within 5 years and we heard Sugar Land has great schools therefore to avoid moving in say 6 or 7 years time we would prefer get established in a location where we can grow as a family.

The area you mentioned "Meyerland/Westbury neighborhood" is that 77035?

What's with the misconception that the drive from Sugar Land to downtown is a pain? From the look of it, everyone that says this lives somewhere other than Sugar Land. 59 is a pretty easy ride into downtown. Its usually a 20-25 minute ride to 610 and another 10 minutes to downtown. Traffic moves pretty well. The slowups are getting past the Sam Houston and 610. Besides that the traffic moves pretty well. On average, 1 day a week you get stuck in traffic due to an accident. I am driving from Sienna Plantation and it takes me 45-50 minutes to get to downtown and that includes the 15 minutes it takes me to get to 59.

Agree. Just put you car on autopilot and read the newspaper Kidding.

Traffic is not bad actually and every once in a while you get an accident which will slow you to a crawl, but most of the times traffic to downtown is not bad, 20-40 minutes from Riverstone....

45-50 minutes is not what i would call a good or easy commute. i would seriously doubt the commute from sugarland to downtown is 20 minutes on average. ive driven that during the lunch hour and didnt make that time

Thank you!

45-50 minutes is from Missouri City. I am about 15 minutes from Sugar Land. And it doesn't say 20 minutes to get to downtown. I said 20-25 minutes to 610 and another 10 to get to downtown. 30-35 minutes total. With no traffic, it takes 20-25 minutes from downtown to Sugar Land.
