Moving back to Houston this week and starting the house hunt. Have a lot of work to do at the same time and trying to work in the hotel room with kids is generally not a great idea.

Have always liked to work out of nice, quiet coffee shops. Starbucks rarely qualifies these days. Anybody have any recommendations for coffee shops that are conducive to getting some work done somewhere in the Galleria area (although if necessary could head into the areas around Rice or Kirby)?

There is a library on Westheimer, west of the Galleria.

Just working on a computer (building power point, working with word docs, etc.).

Try a public library. Call ahead and make sure they're not having a kids' storytime hour or something.

The Starbucks inside a Barnes&Noble works as well.

I know them all. I'm not a coffee drinker and never will be. I do love my iced mochas though. It is a hobby of mine to explore as many no name mom and pop coffee houses as I can find. One thing for sure is Starbucks is horrible with their burned coffee beans.

That said I find myself at Iversion Coffee House on Montrose between Westhiemer and W Gray often. Lousy Fraps but great Coconut mochas. Not too far from Galleria anyway. It's quiet and there are always people on their laptops as well as those just reading while sipping cold drinks. They do have awesome deserts too.

I can name more but the very best coffee house with the best fancy drinks is Fioza on Chimney Rock in Meyerland. Mochas and all their cold drinks are just awesome!! And their sandwiches are the very best.

Dirks on Montrose is always crowded and to this very day I was never able to park within half a mile from this place so I never got inside. I hear it's all snobs with very pointy noses as well as clickish.

You can try the Chocolate Bar in Rice Village as well as on Alabama but the chocolate and cakes are better then their drinks.

I have a few other recommendations but they are not in your area of desire. If you ever see a Gloria Jeans Coffee Beans, they are the very best in the USA but there is only one in all of Texas which is inside the Airport named after the brutal Dictator of the Bush regime.
