There's not many gators in Baton Rouge and I'm sure they're all in captivity. Boo ya!

We have clear bodies of water. I've swam in them.

From what you indicated, there are only three months that are intense in Boston (Jan - March). Be prepared for twice that (6 months) down here. With the cold at least, you can add more clothing and protection. I've found it doesn't work as well in the other direction. You can only take off so much clothing down here, unless you like the nudist thing, whereby you'll get arrested Ha ha.

Just make sure to update us after you've moved, and when you start sweltering in the smothering 90-100s heat of Houston. It's actually heat and humidity (the region is classified as "subtropical"), because we are near both Galveston Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Don't say I and others didn't warn you. Those who downplay it here in these posts are just used to the mental trick one has to do to mentally tune out the heat. That takes practice though, and often only works if you've been raised in the south or the west.

"Intense" is relative. Just because you have a difficult time for 6 months, that doesn't mean that everyone does.

Okay, instead of "intense", I'll use the word the OP used: brutal.

Just because you don't have a difficult time for that 6 months, doesn't mean that someone from the northeast won't experience it.

Similarly, the OP thinks the north's winters are brutal for only 3 months out of the year, but someone else might think it's unbearable from October to March.

Everyone is different.
