With no planned expansion upgrades to the Southwest Frwy and Eastex Frwy and traffic levels to increase by 150% by 2035, TxDOT is exploring the idea of creating a bypass of IH-69 around the Houston area. Judge Ed Emmett would like a bypass that starts on IH-69 south of Wharton, TX bypassing the Houston area to the east to eventually reconnect to back to IH-69 north of Cleveland, TX which would be 120+ mile long bypass.

Could this possibly be IH-269 in the works?

Thoughts?

Nevertheless, they need a surface to drive on, hence, the road. So maybe in 2035 there might be driverless big rigs that will use the IH-269 bypass haha

Read someplace that Perry is not finished with the TTC. It will take a slightly different configuration. Is this a part of the TTC?

All of IH-69 will utilize existing ROW with the exception of a few bypasses here and there.

The TTC is dead. The proposed ROW is too wide and too expensive. TxDOT will use smaller scale models to bypass congested areas kind of like TX-130 around Austin and proposed LP-9 around DFW. LP-9 is going to be a very hard sell in DFW, but I am sure at some point the need for it will rise.

The bypass for Houston is what the TxDOT Houston district and Harris County Judge Ed Emmett wants as a way to divert thru traffic around Houston without adding to the growing local traffic and without adding too many more miles to IH-69 travelers. Hopefully interstate designation will be sought for this bypass.
