Yeah. That would be strange for anyone to just walk up to someone and ask,"Do you like Houston?"

One more thing. I had noticed that some native Houstonians had a New Orleans accent. It was weird.

There's a lot of Louisiana people here. Lot of people from Louisiana colleges come for work and there's also lots of people with family ties to NO.

I was asking natives where to go and some of them had a REAL New Orleans accent but were from Houston. It was cool. I understand now.

It's a few similarities like when they pronounce words like

round
Down
town
frown

Words like that I hear some similarities...but that goes for that area that spans from Houston thru New Orleans

Yes!!! Those are the words. And many Mexicans do sound like southern blacks. There was one helping me at Urban Outfitters. He looked black but I could tell he was Mexican. That was weird.

If they have a real New Orleans accent then they aren't native Houstonians. There's a handful of parallels between the dialects of the two cities, but they aren't at all that similar.

One lady said her mom is from New Orleans. She said she was born and raised in Houston. I think it's kind of like how some people can be born in the South to non-Southern parents and not have a Southern accent.

Katrina evacuee who stayed here?

I used to have a HS teacher from NOLA, also worked with a guy from there. That's an unmistakable accent (as is swamp Cajun), and you know it when you hear it.

I regularly visit Northeastern SA and hear the same thing over there. It's only in a pocket that spans a few miles up & down 35/410. (Same story down the coast to a point.)

Dallas on the other hand... completely different story, sometimes unintelligible.
