The topic is the ASTRODOME and it's been sitting dormant with the citizens wondering what's going to happen to it.

I am just being realistic. We have not come up with anything viable in a decade. It needs to come down. Or we can just keep wasting 165,000 dollars a month of the tax payers money. I would rather that money go to replacing trees in Memorial Park. Or anything useful than sitting on a doomed structure.

I was once a supporter of keeping the Dome around but now its pretty inevitable that its gonna get torn down.

Am I the only one that wonders why the Astrodome was left unused for a whole decade wasting taxpayers money instead of using it for anything to cover its own maintenance costs?

We waited a whole decade because people were hoping for some miracle to come along instead of turning it into a parking lot. Now we have to suck it up and move on.

It no longer meets safety codes, and the Cert of Occupancy has been revoked. It would cost millions to make it even safe for people to walk into. It's cheaper to maintain it at a minimal level, than to make it safe for usage at this point in time.

Regardless, the bond payments continue. None of this affects bond payments.

Again... no good use for it? Tear it down.

And let's not forget the hype about how they were going to turn the Astrodome into a major film studio.

Here is the website right here. The last update was way back in 2009: http://www.astrodomestudios.net/

They even had petitions available on this website to do major films in the Astrodome.

It would have been the world's biggest soundstage for films.

That plan went down the toilet. Had this happened, it would have changed Houston FOREVER.

There was talk about a science and research center, possible hotels and resort yet it still sits.

It's really sad when you think about it.

It's more than likely going to get torn down.

Here is one more idea for the Astrodome fix it up and bring National League Baseball back to Houston since we do not a national league team any more and most people are more use to them

Why would we have an AL and NL baseball team?

And so far, I am happy with them being in the American League.
