You could always move further out in a few years when your kid reaches school age- definitely take the place with shortest commute if you can, time=money as well!

Look into Dickinson. It's right next to Clear Lake. It's a growing area with lots of amenities. Also I read somewhere that parts of Lamarque are zoned to Dickinson ISD, but I really can't elaborate on that.

Decided to let the realtor show us both island & inland (La Marque, Dickinson & League City) rentals. I will leave no stone unturned! Haha. It's very true we can just move AGAIN if we need to in a few years for better schools. You have all been awesome & you're helping me keep my sanity. THANK YOU!

Best of luck, Gidget! Honestly, if I were you I would stick to the island. Enjoy this time and think of it as an adventure! You are on temporary assignment and renting, your two-year old isn't needing schools for a few years. You have many years ahead to live practically (though it really isn't mandatory!) so enjoy yourselves now. Galveston offers a different lifestyle than the mainland, so why not take advantage of that for a time? I don't think you will look back and regret it.

Update: Saw 3 homes on the island, 1 in Dickinson and 2 in League City. Then drove 3 hours home. LONG DAY with a toddler who only slept half the night. Husband & I didn't see eye to eye on the same place. He wanted this dumpy house with a dangerous backyard. I wanted the cute little renovated house one block from the beach. He gave in and I love him for it. So we have to place our washer & dryer outside on the deck. Phht..no big deal. So we'll use the 3rd bedroom as storage because there's no garage. No big deal. We'll be ONE BLOCK from the beach and just a few streets over from Pleasure Pier!!! Okay, yeah, yeah, hurricanes. Blah, blah, blah. We're going to live on the island & enjoy it!

I say this again, you guys have been a great resource. I appreciate all your posts. I love that complete strangers help eachother. Thank you!

Gidget! One block from the beach!!! Seriously, you will look back on this time so fondly, so care-free. I'm so happy and excited for you!

This is absolutely the time to have some fun and lay down some memories!

Don't have the house yet. The realtor (also the landlord) is asking too much. Figured we have room to bargain since it's been vacant since October and offered $100 less, which is the absolute top of the line for us. Waiting & hoping for good news while she thinks about it over the weekend. Just can't picture living anywhere else. I'm ridiculously emotionally attached to this place. Sigh.
