The smell in Galveston is only coming from the abnormal volume of seaweed and organisms that are living in it dying. To have this volume washing up is rare -- so once it is gone, the smell goes back to normal.

I find the nooks & crannies plus the juicy history intriguing. I like to keep my eyes open & SEE the beauty around me. My mother always told me, we cannot all be the same, if we were, it would be a boring world.
You can try some of the ghost tours during halloween season. There is one where supposedly the face of jean lafitte appears on a bldg., they've washed over it, etc. and it continues to return so the story goes.

FYI for inquiring minds: I am not a blonde little girl from Malibu that surfs (although I was lucky enough to live there a few years). Gidget is the name of my pint-sized blue point siamese (and the name of my favorite Sandra Dee character). And she is exremely nutso!

My feeble attempt to change the mood.

I've seen the face--it's on a UTMB building. I'll do the Ghost Tour with y'all, too!

Well, we've been here about 1 month now. I love our little house, though it's been a challenge downsizing. Love being so close to the beach with that awesome Gulf breeze. Can't smell the stinky seaweed buildup here. Our 2 year old loves going to the splash pad around the block, the beach and on walks. I should say we are all enjoying it. Neighbors are friendly. I think it was a good move for us. My husband would be hating life if he was commuting to/from League City/Clear Lake City (although they are nicely groomed towns with a gazillion shopping options and other amenities). We may end up there someday, but for now I'm loving Galveston.

Thanks again to all who shared info. If anyone is reading this as they are considering relocating to Galveston, I hope this thread has helped you.

Have a great day!
