Foxboro, Woodstone Manor, Riveraine, Villa La Jolla, Silver Springs, The Resort Townhomes?

Single, recent grad female. I know that it's probably not around anything, but they are really affordable and that's the attractive thing about them to me.

Thoughts?

That's a really unsafe part of town; I'm not saying good people don't live in those apartments because I'm sure a lot do, but the Alief area or the triangle bounded by Beltway 8, I-69/59, and Bissonet st are some of the highest crime parts of town, with higher crime rates today than historically bad hoods in inner city Houston like 3rd or 5th ward. Even if I felt comfortable at the apartment complex, I would feel very unsafe in that part of town venturing out or even just commuting to and from, even moreso if I was a woman as some see that as an easier target for some reason. There's a lot of back and forth bickering on this forum over which cookie cutter suburban neighborhood with homes priced $150k or much higher is the next to go down hill and become 'unsafe', but this area you're describing is truly a really bad part of town. It is very very dangerous if I haven't made that abundantly clear.

I understand that parts of Houston are outrageously expensive, $1400+ for a one bedroom, but I would suggest at least looking for economy apartments at least in the $800-$1000 range. You can find $600-$800 apartments in all parts of town, although it can be harder to find in some areas than others, but if all the apartment complexes in a given area are $500-$800 across the board, then that is obviously an undesirable area and usually means it is crime related as to why. Looking at HAR.com for rental units even in my zip code where it's hard to find cheap rental units, 77098, I can see 9 rental units available for under $1000, 3 of which are under $800. Do you have a job lined up? If so, I'd want to be located close to there, or if work doesn't matter, then I'd want to be located closer to where I'd likely be going out. I imagine for you it would be closer into town given your age, but even if not, what I highly doubt is that you'd be socializing in the part of town you've suggested.

Thank you. Safety is a bigger concern than affordability to me, so this is good to know. I should've known the prices were too good to be great.
