Conroe ISD is very good school district. You don't send your kids to Conroe HS, but otherwise it's a great district.

If you're into inner-city living, several public HISD zoned schools have good reputations.

River Oaks Elementary is among them...

Friendswood is worth a look for you. League City as well (Clear Creek ISD). You may look at some of the older parts of Sugar Land (not First Colony or Greatwood). Same for Seabrook (Clear Creek ISD), but it is probably out of your preferred price range.

There are plenty of older neighborhoods zoned to good schools around the metro area. However, the metro area is vast and your parameters are way too wide. If you could narrow your desired area down, it would help you generate better suggestions.

The better schools in Kingwood are typically on the eastern end of the community. The newer high school that is closer to US 59 is not as well regarded as Kingwood High, for example.

I have a love hate thing with master planners. I hate the tight and small lots but also love knowing what's developed around me is planned ...... means that odds of home value lowering businesses won't be built around me.
