The Woodlands schools don't even rank well against other schools in the Houston Metro. In fact, they didn't even make the list while Oak Ridge did. Over-rated to say the least.

Klein would be better. Montgomery ISD would be better.

I think I know which list you looked at. The Woodlands and College Park could not be considered. TWHS just opened their 9th grade campus. TWCP is less than 5 yrs old. In both cases, they did not have enough data to be eligible and had to be excluded. The Woodlands schools are very good. Just think about it. The bottom section of the rankings are HISD schools that have had major Katrina Evacuee problems. I'm sure The Woodlands schools would outrank them.

I think you'd like Montgomery. I work with people from there, and they love the schools. I had a friend who taught in that district, and was so pleased that she put her kids back in the public schools. When she taught in The Woodlands/Oak Ridge area, she put them in private school because she didn't like what she saw.

Conroe does have a new, gated community, for those who like that sort of thing. I've heard nothing but good about Graystone Hills. They are getting more and more shopping by the month in Conroe as well. I'm finding less reason to visit Houston and The Woodlands all the time.

I'll echo Lake Conroe resident's recommendations for the area. I don't live far from Lake Conroe and like it. Nowhere else in the area could I have gotten my home for the money. I also like the more casual, laid-back lifestyle of the area.

The Woodlands has a lot of attractions, but I like the slower pace out here.

I agree! I've never heard a negative word about Montgomery ISD schools, and prefer the northern end of the county.

We just visited the area last week. Visited Conroe and West over by Montgomery. VERY pretty areas. My wife and I were attracted to The Woodlands because it is interconnected. What I mean is, you have sidewalks to ride bikes and walk to parks, libraries & schools. Many newer, smaller communities have sidewalks within the subdivisions, but if you need to go outside you neighborhood to school, library or park, there are NO sidewalks. You have to get in your car and drive. Greystone Hills in Conroe is nice, has neighborhood pool and school, but you have to hop in your car and drive to library or High School because of the lack of infrastructure-sidewalks/bike paths to walk/bike outside of the subdivision. The Woodlands has 13 swimming pools and the Parks & Rec. department seems to offer many programs and be well run. I do not like the Town Mall, too plasticy, but that's just me. At least they attempted to develop a downtown area. It seems that it may also be there to attract businesses, so business travelers have a place to go.
