Just curious if it’s what it’s made out to be.

It's like this: River Oaks is where Houston's big money heavyweights reside. You may meet or see some people that grew up in the hoods of Houston living in River Oaks.

People who live in River Oaks do not post in here.

They have a better sense of architecture than most of the wealthy neighborhoods of Houston--I'll say that for them.

A buddy of mine lived there for five years and they liked it. Security was pretty pro-active. He got locked out once and climbed through a window and they were all over him. Neighbors seemed ok.

I also know a bit of a horse's ass who lives there in one of the biggest lots on the bayou. It is terribly decorated in a very conservative old lady style and also in need of lots of maintenance and high operating cost. He has like a 1 acre swimming pool.

There are occasionally "deals" in River Oaks where you can pick up a trophy home which some idiot built, say for $9 million, and lost his fortune and never quite finished construction, the style is ugly, but it's for sale for $6 million. Taxes would be brutal.

If you are a member of the country club it can be a pretty nice existence I guess to live and play in the same tight-knit area.

And this is where old money and nouveau-riche part ways.

Well they used to have a Sherman tank parked in front of Buzzbee's house, but that's in a museum outside college station now. I never saw a tank in MY neighborhood!

Interestingly River Oaks parents fought to get automatic zoning for River Oaks elementary, something Vanguard parents and poor/minorities fought against!
