Not % increases , $ increases

Most people leave Texas at retirement because the state is geared to working people and families. Still too expensive even in the rural areas!

Yes, going forward this will be the case. We will have to leave TX to retire, unless a person is very wealthy.

However, back when my parents retired to Fayette County, everyone we met out there was a Houston area oilfield retiree/escapee.

It USED to be that you COULD retire and move to a rural TX county and live cheaply, but the rural county appraisal districts are now like the urban ones and they too will give you high appraisal increases every year.

Hey OP, what part of Cypress did you visit? There’s a bunch of variety to be found, a little bit of everything for everyone. I am familiar with north cypress. Cypress is very family, residential heavy. The area is addressing the aging trend and has built at least three large senior style apartments that I am aware of. I can’t think of any condos but there are neighborhoods with gated one story patio homes.
