I just received my bill for 5/1/09-6/3/09 (33 days) and we used 1529kw and for the previous bill 3/31/09 - 5/1/09 (31 days) we used 1028kw. Our thermo is usually set at 75 and remains that way.

My personal opinion is all this energy efficiency stuff is just another way to get money out of people. I haven't seen any difference in my electric bills from last year to this year and I recently had all the aluminum single pane windows replaced with double pane low e vinyl Pella windows I was going to have the attic insulation re-done because it's only partially insulated (that way when we purchased the house). The only time I saw a difference in my electric bill was after our first year in the home, when we had a new a.c. put in. Since then, the bill has been pretty much consistent.

I feel the same way too, which is why I've stalled on all that. So far we just went with some good curtains and every 2 yrs I replace the weather stripping around the doors that go to the outside with some cheap foam stuff.

I also found there was a massive difference with the new AC vs. the old. I chose the more efficient model instead of the standard. Even though it cost a little more there was a tax credit and the amount of energy it saves will pay for itself over its lifetime. The refrigerant is ''environmentally friendly'' and colder than the standard formula as long as it stays below ~ 102 outdoors. You're not going to save any money with this "green" stuff, but I figure I'd rather pay for the equipment instead of the energy.

But, it won't be that on the next bill.. It'll be going WAY up.. (A/C's turned on) Last year, I had a month at almost 4000 kWh's.. Youch... Long story..

2000 sq ft house (vintage: 1963), one story, ~900 kWh. We have our A/C set at 79 during the day and at 77 at night.

We have added insulation to the attic and a new A/C unit about 5 years ago.

I locked in .107/ per kWh with Champion, which is a good thing. With the 20 year old a/c unit in our 2400 sf house we paid $220 for 3 weeks (we just moved in).

What is a good provider right now? One with decent rate per/kw for peak hrs, no need to lock in long term, no cancellation fee, no deposit, etc. Powertochoose isn't really updated.
