There's no University here that requires this, is there?

Studies have shown that students who live on college return during the 2nd semester and sophomore year at higher rates. Freshman students have the opportunity to establish a sense of community with their peers and are able to participate in extracurricular activities and clubs. College is not just about the classes that you attend, but the experiences that are provided.

oops, didn't see all those spelling errors

Well, that would certainly benefit U of H...yeah. Just stupid when they try to make you live there. Some might not be able to afford it. Not sure if that's reason enough to get a waiver.

Penn State has always required all Freshman to live in the dorms. (at least at main campus) They do a great job of providing lots of orientation and bonding activities right at the beginning to help kids make friends. It makes a huge difference.

Texas Tech does, Prairie View does, some others, too.

I'd support it. Would definitely be a really smart thing for UH to do.

Houston and UHD are considered commuter schools as most of the students live off campus. Not uncommon in large cities. Most do this because it makes college more affordable.

Moderator cut: personal attack

Seriously, it's know as a commuter school, thus it will never be a UT.

Yeah, it's jsut cheaper to live at home or in a cheap(er) apartment. They don't really have the ability to lure the students into the dorm. I thought U of H had a lot of students living on campus. Read about it a while ago, but I don't remember the %. Wasn't it like 20% or something like this?

UT isn't as good as it was before the 10% Rule.

Totally agree with Freshmen being required to live on campus and without a car.

Why without a car?

Btw, I read that it will be changed to a 8% rule next year.

Edit:

Here's the link:

UH should tighten admissions as well.
