No you need atleast $175k to get anything decent
Under $100k will be a small 1000sqft to 1400sqft home in the geto
Only Place I would even recommond under $100k is windsor village nice pocket neighbohood on southwest side all areas around it have a decent ammount of crime

Now, now. My house is in the 125K - 135K range and I consider it pretty nice. It is however, small at just over 1300 sq ft., quite old (1958), and in need of some updates, though it is in good shape otherwise. The transitioning neighborhood (elderly to younger folks) is actually really good and so is the school district. This area is looked down on though by a lot of folks on CD because of the chemical plants not too far off but that is my gain and their loss. I was concerned about moving to this area from Montrose (inner loop area) at first but was very pleasantly surprised.

I do agree though that 100K and under is a tricky proposition and will not get you much.

You can finds homes in the Tomball/Klein area for under $110K that are in safe areas attending good schools (Klein ISD -not KFHS- and Tomball ISD). Use HAR.com and look in 77379 or 77375 zip code or go by the school district. I'm sure they are choices in Cy-Fair ISD too. For example:

I would say no, as my son has been looking to buy another house and anything decent is 160,00 or above. He bought his present home, 3 years ago, for 120,000 and he got a great deal on that house.

You could probably find one under 100,000, but it might be in a less desirable area and a much older home. Remember your property taxes are high too, even though Houston has lower priced homes then some other states.

I agree about the cost of the house, but as much as people make a big deal about property taxes, keep in mind that on a $150k-$200k home this is not a huge factor if you take in to account the cost of a home in California plus the ridiculous income taxes there.

You can get an 1800 square foot house in Meadows Place for 150,000 or less zoned to exemplary schools. Crime in Meadows Place is lower than any other area in Houston.
