My family and I are possibly relocating to Huntsville and have been researching the Hampton Cove area. I've noticed there is a wide price range in housing. Here are a few questions:

1. Socially, is a distinction made between those in homes on the lower end of the range as opposed to those on the other end of the spectrum?

2. Which neighborhoods/areas have the most young families? Are the more established neighborhoods/areas populated by older couples, families, etc...We have small children and would like for them to be able to make friends easily, especially since this would be our first relocation.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I live in the McMullen Cove/HC area and for what it is worth - all the neighborhoods are full of young families and I have many empty nester friends who live all over the area. I think it is a good mixture.
From my personal experience I haven't experienced any stigma if you live in a smaller/less expensive home. Of course there might be some but I haven't experienced it.

The area is BEAUTIFUL with gorgeous vistas that I find recharge my battery and lift my spirit. We love it! Good luck !

As Mawoods said, there is a wonderful mix in the Hampton Cove area. In the Hampton Cove subdivision, homes seem to be turning over from original owners that are moving up/down or out of the area. There are a few incredible deals located in the subidivision, depending on price range.

In many of the new subdivisions in the HC area, they are beginning to negotiate, when earlier they were not, or they are throwing a nice upgrade package in. You should always expect some closing cost assistance, no matter who the builder is.

Also, when building in a new subdivision, be sure to make sure the builder/developer is in a good position financially. Talk to homeowners. Have your Realtor research... We've had our fair share of subdivisions going belly up. Our laws here are very lax and offer no protection for the current owners of failing subdivisions. Not a pretty place to be. Buying a home in an established neighborhood is the only way to guarantee your future, as far as neighborhood amenities, requirements, etc.
