Hi, I live in the OXR area. We are expecting a baby next year. I have read the online reviews for daycares in this area, and they are less than stellar.

I do work off Drake, and so I am not opposed to taking the baby to a daycare near there, because it is on the way like in Jones Valley, Airport, Whitesburg, etc.

Where does/did your baby go? If you don't mind, how much do you pay for full time? I am a member at Trinity UMC, but I can't find anything on their website about prices. I am not opposed to any other church daycares, either. Thanks! Also, do you feel like you are getting from the daycare what you are paying for.

We had our newborn going to Cambridge Academy in Madison and they are really good but after she got sick within the first few weeks of being there we pulled her out and got an inhome nanny from care.com. We absolutely love it! Just something to consider if you don't want to do the daycare route...

Once the child is 2 yrs old, a lot of options open up, but prior to that, it can be difficult. The only place I know of locally that takes infants and also comes recommended is Willowbrook, which would be convenient on your commute if you take Cecil Ashburn instead of Governor's.

Willowbrook

A lot of area stay-at-home moms I know with school age kids work there part time. I have no idea about prices, but I've heard they are reasonable.

I do know that due to the staff requirements for infant day care, it is often more affordable and perhaps desirable to look into home-based care options for children under age 2. Either an in-home nanny or a local stay-at-home mom (MOMS Club is a good group to network with) who is interested in taking on a daycare child to supplement income. (A lot of women who choose to stay home after working are looking for ways to supplement income.)

I've heard good things about the Whitesburg Baptist daycare. I think they have 1/2 day as well as full day programs.
Good for you for starting the search early. It sounds like it can be hard to get in somewhere with a newborn since classes are smaller.
