Grow your own veggies is very rewarding and give you a reason to exercise. A raised bed is very easy to do. For someone who's more adventurous and has holes burning in pockets, google "eart boxes" online. It is also a fun way to grow veggies.

A word of caution on zucchini, give it a plenty of room. One plant will take up 4' x 4' of space.

Thanks! I will look into that. I don't have money to burn but I like to research. I have been thinking more and more of trying something indoors so I can grow stuff year round. Ever try this?

I have a dwarf lime tree that I move it to indoors during the winter but that's just to keep it alive. Veggies and fruit trees need lots of sun & water in order to grow. They say make sure they get 6 to 8 hours of sun.

I am growing herbs indoors this year, i.e., cilantro, mint and basil. But they look like they are barely hanging on. OTOH, 2 basil I grow in the pot outdoors are doing well.

For indoors, I guess you can use "grow lights" in the winter. But that is electricity intensive and you may get a visit by the DEA . Just open your door with welcoming arms, before they break it down and save the repair bill, as you have nothing to hide .

This is off-topic but last year I visited a company that is developing an unique light to grow plants indoors. They've found that different spectrum of light will encourage plant growth. You should've seen the gigantic plants they have in the laboratory. Before you ask, yes they've been cleared by the Defense Department.

Herbs need lots of sun..and one note on cilantro. Fall thru spring outside is best..and it will 'reseed freely' but as soon as it gets hot, it's gone. I was thinking of trying inside since it would be cooler, but it may need more sun than that if your experience is typical..maybe growlights?

Everybody can grow something, even if it's just one tomatoe plant in a 5 gal bucket

And WallMart price matches the actual add or a print out showing location and date of sale.

One option may be contacting the County Extension Office to find out which local producers sell to the public.
